Services

Drainage and grading services

Every job starts with the same site visit, then one or more of these.

  • French drains

Perforated pipe in a gravel trench for soft spots, ending at daylight or a dry well.

    Standing water
  • Catch basins and yard drains

Grated boxes at low points that take surface water into a buried pipe.

    Standing water
  • Downspout lines

Gutter water piped underground to a pop-up outlet or a lower part of the lot.

    Downspouts
  • Dry creek beds and swales

Shaped channels of stone or grass that carry runoff where we want it.

    Slopes and runoff
  • Regrading

Reshaping the ground by a few inches so water leaves the house and the low spot.

    Slopes and runoff
  • Retaining walls and terraces

Stepped walls on steep ground, with drainage behind them. Tall walls get an engineer.

    Slopes and runoff
  • Rain barrels and rain gardens

A place for roof water to go that is not the foundation.

    Downspouts
  • Sod and seed after the work

We put the lawn back where we dug, and tell you how to water it.

The year in a wet yard

When the work gets done

Weather moves everything, so treat these as the usual pattern for the Piedmont.

  1. Dec – Feb

    Step 1: Winter

The ground is wet and soft. A good time to walk the yard, trace the water and draw the plan.

  2. Mar – Apr

    Step 2: Early spring

The rains return and the wettest yards show themselves. Send photos now, and digging starts as the ground dries.

  3. May – Aug

Step 3: Late spring and summer

Thunderstorms test the fixes. Dry stretches are good digging windows, and new sod needs regular water.

  4. Sep – Nov

    Step 4: Fall

Drier ground is the best time to grade and seed. Leaves clog catch basins and gutters, so check them.

Timing depends on the weather and the crew calendar. We confirm dates in the written scope.

About the work

Do you build retaining walls?

Low walls that hold back a garden bed or a small slope, yes. A wall that holds back a driveway, a building or a tall bank needs an engineer, and we say so before we draw it.

Will the yard look torn up?

Trenches are dug, filled with stone and covered with the sod we cut out or new sod. The line settles over a few weeks, and we tell you how to water it.

Do you work on commercial lots?

We work on homes and small residential lots. For a large site, ask us at the visit and we will tell you if it is a fit.

Not sure which one fits?

Tell us where the water shows up. We will tell you what we would look at first.
